Unfortunately CHCs bear the brunt of this issue and face recruitment/retention issues due to the populations they serve and “lower salaries compared to private hospitals and health systems.”

Mattson and Carriedo-Ceniceros go on to note that “about 95 percent of all health centers currently experience at least one clinical vacancy, and California in particular will need an estimated 8,243 additional primary care physicians by 2030.” The far-reaching implications on CHCs and their clients is discussed.
